A new obsession?

April 30, 2008 - Movies / Shows, Shopping

I started watching Gilmore Girls last night. Which is why I posted this picture of Alexis Bledel that makes me incredibly jealous because OH GOD WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT HOW PRETTY SHE IS? My friend N has a couple of seasons on DVD and she’s always told me how much she liked the series. And since I’m getting really tired of re-running Friends episodes and Prison Break and Lipstick Jungle is still on hiatus and Gossip Girl only comes out every Monday AND I NEED SOME RELAXATION EVERY SINGLE NIGHT AFTER ALL THE BIOLOGY STUDYING, I was looking around to find a new TV series I could obsess with.

I also looked at Heroes but I just couldn’t get myself to start getting into it, what with all the supernatural stuff going on? I don’t think I’d care for that. I also considered starting on One Tree Hill but… Well, as you can see, one highlights complex biological theses in one’s notes, the mind wanders.

So anyway, Gilmore Girls seems pretty awesome so far. I love the mother-daughter-relationship and the French guy working at the hotel and all the humor in it. So I ended up ordering season one and two on DVD from amazon.com, they should be here by Friday.

I also ordered Gossip Girl novel number 10 (I just finished number 9 and already own number 11 for reasons I can’t explain) and the first of the Twilight saga, just because everybody’s made such a big deal about it. I can’t think why I would like something that has vampires in it since I hate anything surreal like that but then again I hated historical novels and then I got addicted to The Pillars of the Earth.

So. Can’t wait for Friday.

Gossip Girl music for glamorous week-nights

January 22, 2008 - Music, Party, School

I know, I know - I get on your nerves with Gossip Girl mentioned in every other post. It’s one of those shows, though, that doesn’t only tell a great story of interesting, loveable characters and treats you with beautiful bird’s eye view portrays of New York City every once in a while.

No, that show also plays amazing music almost carelessly in the background all the time.

And, of course, I just love it all. Go check out the following, they’re great if you’re sitting at home on a week-night and feel really not glamorous at all. Because they do bring sexy back. Or whatever.

Happily never after by Nicole Scherzinger
Believe by The Bravery
With me by Sum 41
Whatever (Folk song in C) by Elliot Smith
Guess who (Parov Stelar Remix) by Nekta
You’ll change by Machine Translations
Stripper by Soho Dolls
Raise your hand by The Lights

These make me want to grab the car keys, storm ot the door and drive straight to my favorite cocktail bar. Wait - something’s wrong here. When have I started to crave cocktails like this?

I guess it’s a good thing then that my German class has one of the semi-anual class meetings tomorrow. I’m told there’s going to be an All You Can Eat And Drink Buffet. Sounds pretty good to me! P said he was going to make cocktails which sounds even better. And since I’ll be driving, he promised to fix some non-alcoholic cocktails as well.

You really can’t expect more than that from a Wednesday night.

Crazy, in every sense of the word

January 16, 2008 - Friends, International, Rambling, School

Although I’m dead tired, I’m in a surprisingly good mood today! See how crazy this is? A couple of days ago I felt like shit and couldn’t stand the minutes passing by and today I’m all excited and full of energy.

So much is going on at school; so many things have to be planned and taken care of: the Senior Night, the Senior Book, the Graduation Ball, the Last Day of School Party at school, several Senior Parties in a club called X (yes, just the letter ‘x’), our graduation motto has to be picked out, t-shirts need to be printed and I’m sure a ton of other things I’m not even aware of.
And somehow it seems as if only about thirty out of all 120 seniors do actually participate in organizing all this. It’s crazy!

Tomorrow me and a friend of mine are going to go to a reading by a French author. They say he’s reading from a book for teenagers but, honestly, I probably wouldn’t understand a word of anything more complicated. So there you go.

My friend S, however, is going to attend university in Brussels which, as you all well know, is in Belgium. As you also know, Belgium has three official languages: French, Dutch and German. She’s fluent in German (obviously!) and is going to go to a Dutch class with me soon just for the fun of it - but all educational institutions in Belgium use French as their language of first choice.

So, it would be rather helpful to know a little French if you want to attend university there. And S does. She is basically fluent in French. It is unreal, she knows everything. It’s like, MY GOD WOMAN!

It’s seriously awesome, though. But that’s because S is awesome. And her boyfriend is, too. He’s originally from Morocco which is in North Africa (as you well know) but now he lives in Brussels and he is 27 and so pretty that I want to cry. He wears black Armani suits and shiny shoes and has an actual job and still manages not to act all, LOOK I GOT A STICK UP MY ASS.

I’m really totally not at all jealous, either.

I feel like I need to start a whole other entry about him now because there are so many things to say about somebody who was born in a poor African country, moved to France and experienced devastating racism while living in the suburbs of Paris which - mildly put - don’t welcome people with dark skin all that warmly, got a fancy job in Belgium and then got himself a girlfriend from Germany who is, let’s see, eight years younger than him.

Anyway. What did I originally want to write about? Does anybody remember?

Prison Break started again last Monday! I hope everybody watched it and is going to continue to watch it because they desperately need better ratings for the show to stay on the air. So unless you love all these entries about depression on this website, WATCH IT.
I also finished all three Gossip Girl books that I ordered and have now started on Desert flower by Wari Dirie. That’s a lesson about complete opposites and everything that’s wrong with this world all in itself.

Talk about crazy.
