HBN
HBN.com is a domain name I’ve had in mind for more than a couple of years but I always ended up chosing different names (beautiful-soul.org and oceansaway.org, for instance). This time, however, it stuck. And you’re not going to believe the things that hide behind this wonderful name.
First of all - even though this is stating the obvious - it has a great ring to it and looks great if written out. Say it out loud while looking at it! See Hear what I’m saying? All the y’s and g’s look so elegant and perfect together, too. There’s more to it than a nice exterior, though.
Highway, to me, is typically American. Now, given that I love the US so much, spent a year over there and up until now am basically in love with US highways, it seemed perfect. The same goes for night. I am a nocturnal person, I love night more than day. And so a combination of the two came quite naturally.
On top of all that - and you might find that this is taking it one step too far - I tend to think of this blog as my personal highway by night. It’s one of many, yet it is still special. It is hidden from those who don’t look for it, yet at the same time it’s out there for the world to see. Guarded and guided by the night, this is where I can ramble, rant, sing, complain, cry and so on without anybody knowing.
Sound a bit too spiritually complex for ya? Well, I agree - it’s farther than interpretation should maybe ever be taken, but let me just tell you one more thing about the birh of this domain name. It originated from a sentence that came from nowhere and that I couldn’t get out of my head for the longest time: sparkly diamonds are sprinkled across the sky / as I’m dancing in my cowboy boots / on an empty highway by night.
And I know that’s corny and everything but, man, it’s just such a beautiful image.
Now, on to the technical stuff. This website is registered and therefore also hosted at E-Starr. It exists since late December of 2007 and was officially opened on January 1, 2008. It looks best in Firefox and a 1280 x 800 screen resolution.
It was brought to life because my previous domain suddenly disappeared in the infinity of the world wide web. I’m sure you’re wondering why I keep coming back and continue to blog, right? Well, guess what, I got an answer for you right here.
