It was a long and dark December…

Coldplay released a new song called Violet hill which can currently be downloaded for free from their official website. It’s an amazing song. I have been listening a lot to Coldplay these last few days and they’re one of my favorite bands anyway. It has been rather quiet around them lately but the new song was definitely worth the wait.

The new album is coming out June 12. Thirteen brand new Coldplay songs. I can’t imagine much else that I’d anticipate as excitedly.

In case you never listened to Coldplay (which is considered a crime in Europe, by the way), I recommend the following list: A rush of blood to the head, Clocks, The scientist, Amsterdam, Fix you, Speed of sound, In my place, Talk, and Swallowed in the sea.

Coldplay: A-MA-ZING. Just can’t go wrong with a Coldplay song.

A new obsession?

I started watching Gilmore Girls last night. Which is why I posted this picture of Alexis Bledel that makes me incredibly jealous because OH GOD WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT HOW PRETTY SHE IS? My friend N has a couple of seasons on DVD and she’s always told me how much she liked the series. And since I’m getting really tired of re-running Friends episodes and Prison Break and Lipstick Jungle is still on hiatus and Gossip Girl only comes out every Monday AND I NEED SOME RELAXATION EVERY SINGLE NIGHT AFTER ALL THE BIOLOGY STUDYING, I was looking around to find a new TV series I could obsess with.

I also looked at Heroes but I just couldn’t get myself to start getting into it, what with all the supernatural stuff going on? I don’t think I’d care for that. I also considered starting on One Tree Hill but… Well, as you can see, one highlights complex biological theses in one’s notes, the mind wanders.

So anyway, Gilmore Girls seems pretty awesome so far. I love the mother-daughter-relationship and the French guy working at the hotel and all the humor in it. So I ended up ordering season one and two on DVD from amazon.com, they should be here by Friday.

I also ordered Gossip Girl novel number 10 (I just finished number 9 and already own number 11 for reasons I can’t explain) and the first of the Twilight saga, just because everybody’s made such a big deal about it. I can’t think why I would like something that has vampires in it since I hate anything surreal like that but then again I hated historical novels and then I got addicted to The Pillars of the Earth.

So. Can’t wait for Friday.

Juno: What a beautifully unique heroine

If you really think about it, what strangely boring plot! - and yet, such a heart-warming story! I absolutely loved Juno; I watched it online but I’m pretty sure I’m going to buy it on DVD as soon as it comes out here in Germany.

I immediately fell in love with Ellen Page’s character Juno. She was hilarious. I mean, the whole movie is pretty funny but the way of talking so casually and God-I-am-so-bored-right-now-ish Page lent to her character made it what it was in the end. A great, entertaining movie, that is. The dialogues are everything in this movie, they are so witty. You really end up feeling for the different characters and after a while, you somehow just really want to be friends with Juno.

At least that’s what I felt like - but I have a soft spot for those, who are different yet, ultimately, so much cooler, anyway. For some reason, she is everything I think about when I hear parents call their kid a trooper.

Another thing that I loved in the beginning was the relationship between Juno and the adopting dad Marc - although that changed towards the end. But you know what else I realized? I am so old now that in these basic American comedies, I can’t look up to the teens anymore. I am older than them. That freaks me out for some reason.

What also made this movie different: there was no leading male that really stuck out as extremely good-looking, funny or interesting. Except, of course, Bleeker (played by Michael Cera) who I just wanted to hug throughout the whole movie because he never seemed quite sure what to do. Didn’t you just feel like pinching his cheeks sometimes? I generally just wanted to be friends with all those unique, beautiful characters.

Definitely a must-see.
